Thinking about Halloween!

My husband and I love Halloween and we are so excited that Thomas is getting old enough to enjoy it too. I already have an idea for a unique costume for Tommy. And this isn't going to be a costume you can find on the shelves at your local Target!

Last Halloween - Tommy the Gnome
And yes, his beard is a bib that has cotton balls glued to it! Last minute genius move on my part, if I do say so myself. He actually kept the bib on for a good 45 minutes.

Halloween has so many potential opportunities for blind/visually impaired kids to participate in. You can have them help create the costumes if they are old enough. Most costumes have some textural elements that can be really fun. And I always think homemade costumes are so much better than store bought. I cannot sew but I don't let that stop me. The gnome costume was made of felt pieces I glued together. It was cheap and easy. There is so much room for imagination when it comes to Halloween!

Thomas has light perception so I am excited to see what he thinks of lit pumpkins this year. And I can't wait to see his face when he touches the insides of the pumpkins when we are carving them. That should be priceless!

As for this year's costume...you will have to wait and see.

  2. I realize that he is still small but I was wondering if you had heard any ideas for Halloween games for the visually impaired? I'm in charge of my company's Halloween party and 80% of our employees are visually impaired or blind. The only game we can agree on is telling a story and passing boxes around with food pretending they are body parts like peeled grapes for eyes. If you have any ideas that would be great. Even if they are childish it doesn't matter, they just want to be included. Thank you :)
