September is a HUGE month!

Tom celebrating his first birthday
Tom's Birthday is this month!
Tom is turning 2 years old this month! That alone is something to celebrate, but we will also be celebrating all that he has overcome in two years. He is one tough cookie! And sharing his birthday with the friends and family who have supported us is the best part.

Appointment with the Functional Feeding Program at the Children's Institute
In about a week we have an appointment at the Children's Institute of Pittsburgh with their Functional Feeding Program. On the advice of his nutritionist we had tried a little g-tube wean with 2 high chair feeds per day, and a slight reduction in volume of his 4 bolus feeds. After about two weeks of positive feeding episodes in the high chair it turned ugly. We had almost total food refusal in the high chair again so we stopped the wean.

Soup!
I am waiting for the advice and wisdom from the Functional Feeding Program before I proceed with any further weaning. Our occupational therapist told us that pushing too hard is the worst thing you can do when you are trying to get your child to eat by mouth. So we are back to doing tastes of whatever Mom and Dad are eating, along with his favorites: pretzels, bell pepper slices, and cucumber.

His acceptance speech and his concession speech all look like victory!

CBS Pittsburgh's Most Valuable Blogger - Voting ends September 9th!
It was such an honor to be nominated. Blindness is among the more rare disabilities and it is quite rare in children. I really hope that some new people got to learn a little about the life of a blind child through the exposure we received from this nomination. I don't know who nominated this blog but thank you! And thank you to everyone who voted.
