I'm so glad the blogging challenge is over and I can go back to blogging my way. Don't get me wrong; it was a great experience but it's hard to have 30 writing assignments when you have a full-time job and a full-time Tommy.
Tommy saw his pediatric ophthalmologist today, Dr. Nischal. It was a great appointment because Dr. Nischal got such a good look at Tom's eyes, and liked what he saw so much that we can actually push our scheduled EUA (evaluation under anesthesia) back by four months! Tom's eye pressure was good and he didn't see any urgent need to bring him in. How great is that?
Tom's contacts fell out over August and Early September and have been out since. Yes, I've been bad. I didn't take him in to have the contacts reinserted immediately...
- Excuse #1 Because he got them out so quickly last time.
- Excuse #2 It happened right around the time I went back to work and Tom was adjusting to daycare/preschool. Those were crazy times.
- Excuse #3 I was running around like a mad woman to get all the paperwork done for his transition to preschool and that's all I could think about.
Oh well. The contacts were put back in during the appointment today and that's what matters. The doctor was able to manage this without a lid speculum (a small metal device that holds the eyelids wide open.) He just popped them in and then checked with a slit lamp to make sure the contacts were placed correctly.
It is so much easier if the contacts can be inserted without a lid speculum. That involves me holding Tom down and usually an assistant holding him as well. It's hard to put your child through that. I can hardly believe Tom used to have his eyes examined that way almost weekly when he was a baby. This kid has been through so much.
We will see if they notice a difference at school tomorrow. This is what Tom looked like the last time he got new contacts.
His eyes are wide open. I hope we see more of that this week!!!
