Great Toys for Blind Children - Holiday 2013

Here's the list!

Great Toys for Young Blind Children Holiday 2013

I get lots of questions about what toys and gifts we are buying for Tommy. I updated my Amazon wish list and I described some toys we already have down below.

But don't forget that Braille books always make a great gift! Check out my Braille book resources - some are free!

So what's Tom playing with in the picture below? He's playing with one of those stuffed toys that play a song if you squeeze the paw. He LOVES those. We have one for almost every holiday and he plays with them until they break.

Stocking Stuffer Ideas:
  • wiki sticks
  • play dough
  • harmonica or small tambourine
  • whistles
  • foam stickers
  • candy - and for Tommy that means gummies!
  • small braille book
  • light spinner toy- Tom loves these even though he has minimal light perception. I think he loves the vibration.

Guidecraft's 3D Feel & Find
I bought Guidecraft's 3D Feel & Find  a couple years ago and only now is it appropriate for Tom. He still puts everything in his mouth and only now am I ready to trust him with this toy. I do think it's a really cool little puzzle toy. These figures would be good to use in messy play in a box of rice or pasta.

Collector's Edition Sesame Street Music Player with Storybook with Great Grandma Dee.
The Music Player is a great toy that has 4 music cds. It's hard for a child (or an adult) to get the tiny cds in the player right but the buttons are very simple. Tom loves this! You will find it in the book section because the CD player is attached to a large book filled with the lyrics to the songs.

Music Together Class
This is Tommy's big gift this year. We signed him up for Music Together classes again. He loved these classes. Your are involved in music so that means singing, dancing, and playing small instruments. By the last class of his first set of classes Tommy was a pro. I can't wait to see what he thinks of Music Together one year later.

Playing Bop-it!with Dad.
There's a reason that Bop-it! is a classic! We play it together with Tommy because he's not fast enough to keep up. He loves to play it with us though and it's a toy he will grow into.

  1. Again a lovely post. Each gift round (birthdays, X-mass,...), we have to start looking for new ideas! Thanks for the tips :). For our youngest (4yrs) we've bought the construction yard from Vtechs Go! Go! Cars. At first he wasn't interested/ a bit anxious, but now he's starting to play with it. All the cars are interchangeable/ compatible with other theme tracks and have built-in sensors. When the cars are rolled over the sensors they make sounds or music. Each car has it's own 'function' (police car, hellacopter, ...). Even our oldest, severely autistic son loves to play with them.

  4. Hey there would you mind stating which blog platform you're using?

I'm looking to start my own blog soon but I'm having a hard time making a decision
    between BlogEngine/Wordpress/B2evolution and Drupal.
The reason I ask is because your design seems different then most blogs and I'm looking for something completely unique.
P.S My apologies for getting off-topic but I had to ask!

    1. This blog is currently on blogger but I am in the process of moving it over to wordpress so it won't look like this for long! Blogger is easy, free, and did I mention easy? Wordpress can do a lot more so that's why I'm changing but I was very happy with Blogger for years. Good luck!
