Playgroup! Part 2

Thomas started playgroup again this week at the Western Pennsylvania School for Blind Children (WPSBC). It's so quiet there during the summer when school is out that I thought we had the date wrong! But we were there on the correct day; unfortunately, we were the only ones who came to play that day. It just made me so sad that no other kids could come.

SWM is seeking playgroup buddies, contact WPSBC for details!
Where are the kids? I just don't get it. I think it's a unique opportunity for the kids to play with other blind/VI kids in a supportive and educational environment. When I found out about these playgroups I couldn't sign up fast enough. I just don't understand why more families don't participate. Maybe because the parents are working and the kids are in daycare. That's a factor, of course. But I would take a vacation day and take Tom if I was working and have my husband do the same the next time. Maybe that's just me.

Socialization is so important and the resources available at WPSBC are unique in Western Pennsylvania. I hope more kids come next time. Not that the first playdate was a total loss! Not at all. It was held in one of the classrooms upstairs and I got to see more of the facilities. Plus Thomas got individual attention from the vision teacher and speech/language pathologist. It was still an enjoyable visit, it just wasn't a playdate.

Note- I posted this blog to a site called Top Mommy Blogs. I want more people to be able to find Tom's blog and sites like this help increase our site's visibility.

Of all the special need blogs on the Top Mommy Blogs site, Thomas Marshall Does It All is the only one that deals with blindness/vision impairment. I think it's important to give others a chance to read about what life is like for a blind child. Please take a moment to click on this link and vote for Tom's blog. Thanks!!
