Glow in the Dark!
I am always on the lookout for fun new activities to try with Tom, and if I find a cheap activity- even better! On the blog Play At Home Mom I found a whole section of activities called Adventures In the Dark. I found many great ideas on this site that would be visually stimulating. Some activities would be better suited to a child older than Tom since he still likes to put everything in his mouth.
We have often played with Tom's light up toys in a dark room as part of his vision therapy. Occasionally I have used glow sticks as part of his vision activities. I always find them at the dollar store and I just can't pass them up.
Now glow sticks are always fun, but they are even better in the bathtub! We turned out the lights and those glow sticks looked amazing in the water. The tub is a good atmosphere for this type of game because the child is contained which helps to keep their attention. Plus the water is soothing and puts Tom in a good mood. He loves water!
Next time I will look for thicker glow sticks which would be easier for him to see. I kept trying to group the glow sticks together to create a bigger visual target for him. And next time I'll get an assistant because it's hard to take pictures and keep Tom safe in the tub at the same time. He's getting too quick!
You are brilliant!!!! I give Elsa glowsticks in the car sometimes, but I never thought of the tub. I bet she would love it!!!
