New Tastes, New Books.

Eating a real banana!
Spring is all about new beginnings. Tom is beginning to think eating might be a pretty good thing. It might even be enjoyable. This weekend he had a taste of a cannoli and he came back for two more bites. Dessert is near and dear to my heart so I am very happy that he has a taste for the sweet stuff too.

We have decided to pull back on his feeding therapy at the Children's Institute but still continue with occupational therapy. He has sort of plateaued and they think he might need some time to progress on his own. At this point, he has the skills and the interest to learn to eat- now he has to practice! With time, we expect the volume of food he eats to increase so we just need to be patient.

In Other News
Tom participates in the NFB's Reading Pals Club. He just got a new book and some fun activity sheets in the mail. Some of the stuff will be great when he gets a bit older so I am saving it for then. He is going to have quite a little library built up by the time he's a reader.

His free book for this year is "Sheep in a Shop" by Nancy Shaw. He already likes it and I have only read it to him about 5 times. It usually takes a while before he likes a book. It think it helps that this book rhymes and is very silly. I think we will get more of the "Sheep in a ..." series for Tommy.

But back to food!
Can you guess Tom's new favorite treat? An avocado, banana and yogurt smoothie! He loves it. It has a smooth and rich taste that is very gentle. It would be a great starter food for any young child because it is high in calories, nutrition and healthy fats.

It's not easy to find full fat yogurt in most supermarkets. Trader Joe's European Style Plain Whole Milk yogurt is an excellent choice.
