I was at Target and bought a couple crafty items including acorns and a small scarecrow. I am so excited to find a scarecrow figure that will allow me to explain that idea to Tom. He has a book about Halloween that talks about several costumes and has touch and feel elements. This will make it much easier to explain the concept of a scarecrow. I love having real examples for Tom!
We are going to do a little Halloween decorating. Here are some ideas for getting the kids involved.
Halloween & Fall Ideas
- Spider webs on bushes outside. This is Tom height and involves lots of texture. Plus Tom loves spiders because of the Itsy Bitsy Spider and this will be fun and meaningful to him. Now is the time to buy a giant spider to use as a prop for singing Itsy Bitsy Spider.
- Fall wreath. That's what the acorns and scarecrow are for! We can get pine cones and leaves from our neighborhood but acorns are harder to find on our block. And I'm on the hunt for some indian corn! Great texture to feel on the corn.
- Window clings. Tom feels that the front door and screen door are his territory. Window clings are a great way to let Tom be in charge of some decorations. He can put them up and take them down as much as he wants. And window clings are cheap! I found a set for a dollar.
- Foam stickers - Tommy loves foam stickers. Just adding them to anything is a fun way to spend some time together and good finger exercise!
- Cook together- Cookies or something as simple as pudding can be a good way to make something together. It doesn't have to be elaborate to be fun. Chocolate pudding can be mud and then add some gummi worms for texture.
- I saw the cutest turkey craft on Pinterest that used fall leaves for the turkey feathers. Collecting the leaves is part of the fun!
- Paper plate ghost. Take a paper plate and add eyes and a mouth. Then add long white streamers to complete your spooky ghost!
- If you child has low vision then paint your pumpkin black so the eyes can really shine through! It's all about contrast.
