Summertime!

It's summertime and we are taking full advantage of the good weather and family events. This time last year Thomas didn't have his g-tube yet so we couldn't take him out much due to his constantly low levels of hydration. He often refused to eat back then so we spent lots of time trying to get him to eat. Luckily we don't have to do that anymore. We still work on getting him to taste and eat foods but it doesn't have to be our only focus anymore.

It has been great to be able to take Tom to picnics, parks and arts festivals all over the city. Sometimes Tom gets very quiet in a new environment, but that is because he is listening intently to figure out what is going on. His receptive communication skills are impressive for someone his age. He just absorbs what is going on around him.

Thomas is going everywhere with me during the day as I run errands. I love being able to take him with me and explore the world we were missing last year. He loves to ride in the cart at the grocery store. Thank god they provide disinfecting wipes because he loves to taste the bar on the carts. Yuck! Last week he was singing are we strolled through the aisles of the grocery store. I told him what I was buying and let him feels some of the food before we put it in the cart. It's a great learning experience.

My parents got Tom a little backyard pool and it is such a hit! He was sort of wary at first, but now it's like everything he likes about a bath without getting his hair washed.
